1991 Thunderbird Super Coupe
| August 17, 2008
3.8 Liter V-6, with Eaton supercharger. 5-speed manual transmission, with 2:42 gears.Larger disc brakes all around than standard Bird of the era. Adjustable suspension from the cockpit. Not the greatest arrangement from the boys at Ford. In soft mode, it rides like a car that needs shocks. But in firm mode, it's like a go cart. Not bad for a car that weighs nearly 4000 lbs. All the luxury items one would expect on a Thunderbird, including seats that squeeze in from the sides for when you are cornering hard. You don't have to hit 5th till around 100mph. At 120, it's turning 3200 rpm. Red lines at 5000. This car does a lot of things fairly well, considering her age. It will out-run the GT Mustang pictured here, which is stock, except for cold air induction, and Flowmasters. But the Mustang will beat it off the line. It's a wonderful feeling to be out on the interstate, when no ones around, and drop it to 4th, and run it up to over 100. It's like a magic carpet ride. And, if you keep your foot out of it a little, it gets about 20mpg. Hope you like it.
