Although Jay and his wife don’t have a family, he’s always lusted after a station wagon hailing from America’s great cruising era. Jay’s a two-door man, so when he saw this meticulously restored 1954 Berkshire Green Dodge Coronet Suburban tooling around Los Angeles, he was in love. But what really sold him was the Hemi under the hood. It’s a 241 cubic inch Red Ram with four barrel carb, three on the tree with overdrive, yielding 150 hp. This potent engine won numerous AAA Stock Car speed records for Dodge, and paced 1954’s Indianapolis 500. It was pretty powerful for a comparably lightweight 1954 family car with a base price of $2492, and can still hold it’s own on the highway today at 75 - 80 mph.

This station wagon was originally used to tow boats, and has never left the San Fernando Valley.

This car’s original owner used it to tow boats, but it was in pretty good shape, having never left the state of California. Everything has been restored back to 1954 specs, and it sports all its original accessory equipment, including the illuminated hood ornament, factory-painted wire spoked wheels and fresh air heater. It even sports a matching thermos and cooler!

Previous owners of the vehicle have stocked it with accessories and memorabilia to make this Suburban a virtual rolling museum. There’s “Elegance in Action,” a set of 78 rpm phonograph records dedicated to the Red Ram V-8. Another accessory is the Adar Aerial Intensifier, an ornamental add-on for the radio antenna. Slated as “the latest product of modern science,” it promises to strengthen the radio signal for a mere $1.95.
